I put two nails in my closet and hung this last winter. Anything that I'm just not ready to give up yet, or anything that has moved me, or anything that has been something in my life worth remembering ... it goes on the board.
I'm choosey. There's not a lot of space and let me talk to you about how this sucker isn't exactly "anchored" to the wall or anything. Special notes. Special people. Plane tickets. The lanyard I carried every day for years at my old job. Birthday pictures, and a New Year's Eve headband from the night that Craig and I spent together in a quiet bar with a few others.
This - this is one of the most precious things that I own.
There is just something soothing about this visual representation of just ... love. And joy. Moments passing by that had me standing in the middle thinking, "Yes. This. This is what life is really supposed to be about."
Zoo train passes from a Top Ten Day spent with The General.
A concert band that had BFF Suzy, The Boyfriend, and I all dancing and sweating together.
Baseball tickets from one of the first games of the summer.
A thank you note from my nephew.
A thank you note from The Boyfriend's Sister.
This year has been a year for change. I have a new job. The Boyfriend has a new job AND a new apartment in a new city. I think that - years from now - when I look back at 2017, I'll think of me standing on some kind of balance beam ... trying desperately not to fall off into the unknown.
New is hard.
Making new friends; accepting the loss of old friends. Trying to figure out my motion detected classroom lights. Getting my computer to print documents the correct way (omg, the frustration). Figuring out all of the names. Smiling while carrying Craig's couch to a moving truck.
Lord have mercy.
A year for hard, big change.
The days plod past, and sometimes at five in the morning, I stand in my closet and stare blindly at the clothes in front of me. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. And to my direct left, I know it's there. Shining and sure.
A tribe of people whispering into the cool, crisp fall mornings -
Spring always comes. Here is the proof.
And damn if that's not just what I need.
I guess I made it here somehow
I made it this far and I am proud
It's my whole world has changed
Nothing stays the same
And I for one am glad
. About Moi .
I love, love, love flannel sheets and I am really passionate about lists on post it notes and most of the time I'm sad that no one else is as excited as I am about Diet Mountain Dew. I also adore run-on sentences.
